Civil and structural engineering - providing the design and layout of new roads and a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) for housing developments

Roads and drainage – new housing estate

Services: Civil and structural engineering, environmental engineering, planning assistance

A property developer working on a new housing estate in the village of Dalrymple, Ayrshire, appointed us to provide the design and layout of new roads and drainage for the site.

We carried out a thorough investigation of the area and a review of the type and number of new homes being built to gain a full understanding of the requirements.

We devised and provided detailed plans of a suitable proposed road layout, including the required levels to suit the housing layout. As with all new developments today, we included in the drainage design a sustainable urban drainage system (SUDS) as part of our plans.

We were then responsible for obtaining all the necessary approvals. This included working closely with the relevant local authority and its roads department, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and Scottish Water to ensure acceptability and compliance with local planning and regulatory requirements.

The site is now developed and many families are enjoying their new house.
